Explosive/Energetic/Reactive Waste Services

Explosive/Energetic/Reactive waste/materials consist of substances or articles designed to perform a specific objective by producing a sudden expansion of material accompanied by the production of heat and pressure. Pollution Control Inc provides waste disposal options for companies who generate explosive waste through the manufacturing process. Some of these industries include, but are not limited to:

Defense Industry- Munitions, Projectiles, Countermeasures, Powders and Compositions.
Mining Industry- Emulsions, Detonating Cord, and other Initiating Explosive Devices.
Oil & Gas Industry- Shaped Charges, Power Charges, Blasting Caps, Powders and Compositions.
Sporting Industry- Munitions, Powders, Primers.
Transportation Industry- Automotive devices, Air Bags, Squibs.

For over 25 years PCI has traveled to clients locations across the United States and provided services such as Packaging, Transportation and Disposal as well as assisting customers in obtaining the proper information to ship items for safe disposition. Our goal at PCI is to ensure that our clients waste explosives are disposed of safely, properly and economically based on their specific needs. The explosives category includes any article or substance which can rapidly detonate or deflagrate. This classification is broken down into six sub-divisions and includes things like munitions, countermeasures, etc.

Division 1.1 Explosives which have a mass explosion hazard

Division 1.2 Explosives which have a projection hazard

Division 1.3 Explosives which have a fire hazard and either a minor blast hazard or a minor projection hazard or both

Division 1.4 Explosives which present no significant blast hazard

Division 1.5 Very insensitive explosives with a mass explosion hazard

Problems Associated with Disposal of Explosive Waste

In many ways there are similar problems associated with disposing of explosive waste versus other classes of hazardous waste. There are a wide range of materials and each can require different disposal treatment options based on that particular article or substance. PCI handles all forms of both Substances and Articles and brings an in depth understanding of the different handling procedures and EPA approved treatment options available. This allows us to offer our clients the safest, most economical option for disposing of their waste. Due to the fact PCI handles such a wide range of industries and materials we are able to align certain types of energetic materials with certain types of treatment options. Also, since the volumes of explosive waste we ship are so large we are able to allow shared transportation for compatible materials to the approved disposal facility to cut down on transportation cost for our customers.

Methods of disposal

Explosives should be disposed of by the most suitable and safe methods. Identification of the most suitable disposal method needs to consider the nature of the explosive and its hazards. Due to the fact PCI utilizes several different means of disposal methods this allows us to best match your waste with a disposal outlet.
